Common questions
Straight answers to what business owners in Qatar ask us most.
How much does it cost to set up a company in Qatar?
Government fees for a foreign-owned mainland (MOCI) LLC with one activity and an office come to about QAR 7,200: commercial registration QAR 500, articles attestation QAR 500, notarisation QAR 500, Qatar Chamber QAR 5,000 (charged when non-Qatari ownership is above 49%), commercial permit QAR 500 and establishment card QAR 200. The trade name is free when reserved as part of the Single Window setup. Each extra activity adds QAR 300. A Qatari-majority LLC with capital under QAR 500,000 pays about QAR 2,700. Premises, deposits and visas come on top.
Can a foreigner own 100% of a company in Qatar?
Yes, in most sectors. Law No. 1 of 2019 allows up to 100% foreign ownership with Ministry of Commerce and Industry approval, except in banking and insurance, which need a Council of Ministers decision, and commercial agencies, which are excluded. QFC and Qatar Free Zone companies can also be 100% foreign owned.
What is the corporate tax rate in Qatar?
10% on the share of taxable profit attributable to non-Qatari, non-GCC owners. Companies wholly owned by Qatari and GCC nationals resident in Qatar are generally exempt. Oil operations pay at least 35%.
When is the Qatar tax return due?
Within four months of the financial year-end, with the tax paid the same day. For a 31 December year-end, the return and audited financial statements are due by 30 April. Late filing costs QAR 500 a day, up to QAR 180,000.
Do I need an audit in Qatar?
Every company files a tax return on Dhareeba, even if it is exempt. Companies with any foreign partner, fully foreign-owned companies and branches of foreign companies must attach audited financial statements from a GTA-registered auditor, whatever their capital or income. Companies 100% owned by Qatari nationals or GCC nationals resident in Qatar need an audit once capital reaches QAR 1 million or annual income reaches QAR 5 million; below that they file a simplified return.
What is the withholding tax rate in Qatar?
A flat 5% on services, royalties, technical fees, interest and commissions paid to non-residents without a permanent establishment in Qatar. It is paid to the General Tax Authority before the 16th day of the following month. Dividends are not subject to withholding tax.
Does Qatar have VAT?
No. Qatar has not introduced VAT.
