The short answer

Qatar charges corporate income tax at 10% on the share of taxable profit that belongs to non-Qatari, non-GCC owners. Companies wholly owned by Qatari nationals or GCC nationals resident in Qatar are generally exempt, and petroleum operations pay at least 35%. Returns are due within four months of the year-end, so 30 April for a December year-end, and are filed on the GTA's Dhareeba portal.

    Who pays corporate tax?

Any company or branch earning income from Qatar pays tax on the part of its profit that belongs to non-Qatari, non-GCC owners. So a company that is 60% Qatari-owned and 40% foreign-owned pays 10% on 40% of its taxable profit, and nothing on the rest.

    Who is exempt?

Profit that belongs to Qatari nationals and to GCC nationals resident in Qatar is generally exempt. Being exempt does not take you off the GTA's books, though. Exempt companies still need a tax card, proper accounting records and a return every year.

How do I work out my tax?

Multiply taxable profit by the foreign ownership share, then by 10%. For example, QAR 2,400,000 profit × 49% foreign ownership × 10% = QAR 117,600. Taxable profit is not the same as the profit in your accounts: you add back costs the law does not allow and take off deductions it does. The estimator on this page lets you try it with your own numbers.

    When is the return due?

Within four months of the end of the financial year. For a 31 December year-end, the 2026 return and audited financial statements are due by 30 April 2027. The GTA sometimes extends the deadline. When it does, we put it in our Qatar Tax Alerts.

What happens if I file late?

The GTA charges QAR 500 for each day of delay, up to QAR 180,000, plus 2% a month on any unpaid tax. Exempt companies are not let off either: one that misses its return pays QAR 10,000 plus the same daily penalty.

    Do I need audited accounts?

Yes, if any owner is foreign or the company is a branch of a foreign company, whatever its size. Companies wholly owned by Qatari or resident GCC nationals need them from QAR 1 million capital or QAR 5 million income. See Do I need an audit in Qatar?
